Proserpine – Alpha Epsilon

Alpha Epsilon Branch was chartered on 16th June 1964. It is now the longest serving branch within ESA Australia, having over 56 years of helping others and raising money for numerous worthwhile organisations, ranging from Local, State, National and International levels.

Locally, the branch has supported groups such as the Proserpine area schools, Meals on Wheels, Blue Care, Scouts, Girl Guides, Proserpine Citizens Band and Proserpine Leisure Activity Centre for the Handicapped. Up until recently members delivered the local newspaper to the patients and residents of the Proserpine Nursing home and Hospital every week. We hope to find a way to continue this service, around the online production of this ‘much loved’ local information and communication tool.

Maintaining the kitchen at the Proserpine Community Centre has opened doors to catering for some of the events there. The Annual Linen Hamper Raffle has become the ‘sort out’ ever popular raffle of the year.

One of the most impressive fund-raisers is the Annual Proserpine Art & Craft Expo which was established in 1997 by ESA Australia’s founder, Dorothy Banks. It has grown larger and stronger over the years with much success.

Also, with their fund-raising accolades, the Branch has helped –

  • RACQ-CQ Helicopter Rescue Service
  • Royal Flying doctors
  • Angel Flight
  • Leukaemia Accommodation unit “Corridors of Courage” in Townsville
  • Gluyus Rotary Cancer Accommodation Centre in Townsville
  • Christian Blind Mission
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Mackay Base Hospital Renal Unit
  • Dumbleton Rural Fire Brigade with the “Circus Quirkis” concert for handicapped  and disabled children and carers
  • Cancer Council Qld with Daffodil Day
  • ESA Wig and Turban Service

Alpha Epsilon members enjoy their Social Education programs just as much as their fund- raising events. The members always welcome non-members, family and friends to these events for the benefit of the community. “The work gets done, while having fun”, is their everyday motto and “Sharing and Caring” their pledge to Mankind.
